Week III
This week I didn't have any class, and the reason is that from Jan. 26th to Feb. 3rd, I was part of a campaign in ASAPROSAR. Working as an interpreter volunteer is always one of the most gratifying and rewarding jobs you can ever do. If you haven't done it, I invite you to do it!
What did I do?
Every year, ASAPROSAR has different types of campaigns related to eye ailments. Last year I had the privilege to participate as a volunteer doing her “horas sociales” on the Strabismus campaign. This year I was able to participate in one focused on cataracts, pterygium, glaucoma, and eye exams. Prior to this week, I went through training on medical consecutive interpretation. Everything was focused on the ailments of the eye.
It was an honor to work with doctors from different parts of U.S that come here to donate their time and professional work. By helping people that can't afford to pay for eye surgeries related to cataracts, pterygium, glaucoma, or even glasses. I'm grateful for the time I spent helping people that needed it the most. And although the project was not about me, I was still able to practice my skills as a consecutive interpreter. I learned a lot and enjoyed the time I spent with the talented international volunteers, the staff of ASAPROSAR and my classmates that felt like long time friends that made every day fun and special.
Thank you for updating your blog. I hope you enjoyed your experience at ASAPROSAR.
